Lilburn Writers Guild Meets At The Little Shop Of Arts And Antiques

Lilburn Writers Guild First Meeting July 18th!

I feel this calls for Shakespeare - ish: "We few, we happy few, we band of writers;" We can now all say - I WAS THERE! How cool is that?  Emilie P. Bush

Oh, I am so lacking in keeping this blog up to date! We have had so many incredible events at the shop. I am posting this on our first Lilburn Writers Guild meeting that was held last night, Monday, July 18. Emilie P. Bush, Lilburn's own Steampunk author hosted the meeting and will do so at our next meeting on August 8th! If you love to write and are in the area - come on and join us!

I am going to go back and update with all the shop's past events shortly. But want to get current with this latest news! Emilie's notes from the meeting are below. Friend us on Facebook!

Minutes:

About the Lilburn Writer’s Guild: Meeting on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month, this social group of writers will come together to share the triumphs and pitfalls common to most wr...iters. As a group, the guild is committed to sharing knowledge to help maneuver in the publishing world, support writers and their work, and build a body of work for posterity from the people of Lilburn.
A series of goals were put forward:
• A New York Times Best Seller – as the purpose of a writer’s guild is to improve the quality of writing in our area – we shall endeavor to shoot for the moon.
• Provide Marketing and Networking opportunities for our members.
o Raise awareness through local events such as Lilburn Daze and Lilburn Expo
o Reach other writers in the community to share and learn from
• Create an annual literary publication
• Provide support and guidance for the writer’s submission process
o Encourage each other to enter writing contests and send query letters
o Schedule mailing party weeks (to create momentum)
• Answer questions for one another through discussion and the open sharing of information
• Help to form critique groups
Talks and discussions that members were interested in sharing:
• Balancing writing and life
• The business of writing
• How to copyright and protect your work
• How to start a publishing company
• Formatting a self published book
• Meet the editor – what to look for, how to work with and what it costs
• Style in writing – building style sheets, style manuals
Format of our meetings: The Old Town Lilburn Center of the Arts generously has offered to host our meetings, for which we are grateful.
• 7PM – doors open for the guild – informal drinks, snacks and socializing (snack rota to be organized by Michele or other – brown bag welcome! Feel free to eat as we meet, unless your meal involves a hibachi or some such.)
• 7:30 – we will meet for organized discussion, followed by breaking into smaller critique groups or other conversation. And more snacks.
• 9:00 – we scoot so the CoA can close.
These are the minutes of our meeting as best I can remember. So say I, Emilie P. Bush.
