'Lady of Lilburn' Moves Into Old Town

New landmark watches over the comings and goings of Old Town - by Pat Gabilondo on Lilburn-Stone Mountain Patch March 25,2011

Just recently we saw the Blue Rooster Café close down and then shortly after that Little Treasures on Main closed their doors and so many of us were saddened at the loss of these Old Town landmarks.

Fortunately for the Old Town shopping district, The Little Shop of Arts and Antiques opened recently and is already expanding its footprint to include extra space for hosting art events, writing classes and so much more. The owner, Barbara Barth, is bound and determined to liven up Main Street with her own unique sense of style and artistic flair. (Editor’s note: Barbara writes “Old Town Happenings” every Monday for Lilburn Patch.)

One of the first things that you might notice as you drive down Main Street these days is that there’s a new “Lady of Lilburn” watching over the comings and goings of Old Town.

She’s a beautiful young lady with a rather coquettish look on her face who appears to be almost peaking around the corner of The Little Shop of Arts and Antiques. She is elegantly surrounded by red rose bushes lining the walkway, which leads your eyes and feet into the new art gallery and the Front Porch Room.

Barth plans to turn the Front Porch Room into an intimate gallery/café retreat complete with bistro-style tables where beverages and light snacks can be purchased for guests to relax and enjoy their surroundings.

Continuing on through the Front Porch Room, you then enter into the Main Event Room, which will serve as an art gallery and/or event facility and can hold small to large groups up to approximately 40 people. This space will be available for the general public to rent out per event. There is also a small kitchenette attached to the Main Event Room to support catered events.
In addition to the Main Event Room there are two smaller rooms in the back of the building that will be the future home of art classes for home-schooled children starting around mid-April.

Don’t miss the grand opening of the expanded Little Shop of Arts and Antiques on April 2. Be sure to stop by and say hello to Barbara, the new “Lady of Lilburn” and author Jane Harmon who will be signing her novel “Pip” about a boy and his dog and the Trail of Tears.
