Christmas In July - Ornament Classes Every Saturday

 

 

Christmas in July! Ornament artist and crafter HAND MADE BY DAWN  will be doing either ornament technique demos or teaching a project all five Saturdays in July. Dawn sells her ornaments and demonstrates her techniques at festivals all over the metro Atlanta area. Come to the shop and see her Christmas tree full of crafted ornaments for sale.

July 2 - Demonstration of hand cutting paper ornaments (a.k.a. Scherenschnitt). Ongoing from 11:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. except for a lunch break at 12:30.
July 9 - Learn how to make a Norwegian Paper Star. Materials will be provided. Classes begin every 30-minutes starting at 11:00 a.m. with a break for lunch at 12:30 p.m. The last class will start at 4:00 p.m. Participation is first come, first serve.
July 16 - Demonstration of the technique used to create Temari - Japanese Thread Balls. Ongoing from 11:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. except for a lunch break at 12:30.
July 23 - Introduction to crocheting. Learn the basic chain and a single crochet stitch. If you are a fast learner, you can try half-double or double crochet. Yarn and crochet hooks will be available for use during the class which will last up to an hour. It is recommended that you reserve a spot for this one by calling the shop at 404-326-7306. Classes begin at 11:00a.m., 1:00p.m., 2:00p.m. and 3:00p.m. Otherwise, participation will be first come, first serve.
July 30 - Learn how to make Tin Can Paper. This is a fun and easy twist on making sheets of handmade paper, or you can choose to make a tin can paper ornament. Wear something you don't mind getting messy, just in case. Classes begin every 30-minutes starting at 11:00a.m. with a break for lunch at 12:30p.m. The last class will start at 4:00p.m. Again, first come, first serve but you can reserve a spot in advance by calling the shop.

Saturday, June 25,  meet Joann and the LitChix for a book signing on their charming murder mysteries with the newly released cook book inspired by characters in the books!

The LitChix will be introducing their new cookbook, Darn Good Food That Doesn't Take Long To Fix, based on the food and characters in their two Atlanta based mysteries! 
A Well-Manicured Murder: When Atlanta wheeler-dealer Sonny Simmons is found at the bottom of his unfinished pool - shot, bludgeoned, strangled and covered in barbeque sauce - his socialite wife Andrea is the prime suspect. Fortunately, her book club friends, who call themselves the LitChix, are on the case, sleuthing their way through Atlanta to solve the crime.   
In Killer Condo, codes, condos and clues abound when the LitChix pursue the Rabbit through Atlanta. With humor and ingenuity, these amateur sleuths and book club pals explore life, love and larceny in the second LitChix murder mystery.

Polymer Clay artist Roxanna Guilford-Blake shares her polymer clay art canvases and jewelry on Friday night from 6 to 9 PM. Meet the artist and listen to her talk about this art form. Exhibit and sale. Light refreshments.
Roxanna's exhibit will be in the little grey house number 96 Main Street NW, part of The Little Shop Of Arts And Antiques.

Open Mic Poetry Event with Jill Jennings

If you love poetry - come join the fun. Free event. Open mic for other poets to share their work.
Listen to Jill read from her poetry books. Jill teaches poetry writing workshops for all ages both in the public schools and for adults through writers' groups such the Georgia Poetry Society, where she serves as Vice President.
Joining Jill will be poet Joann Dunn. She will have her humorous book on marriage poems for sale. The small fee for this book will be donated to the Ahisma House, a shelter for women that allows them to bring their pets. It is the only shelter of its kind that is state-wide in Georgia.
Then come back next Saturday, June 25, and meet Joann and the LitChix for a book signing on their charming murder mysteries with the newly released cook book inspired by characters in the books!
Don't miss a chance to buy one of the fantastic and reasonably priced photos by Lilburn photographer Richard Ferris. Exhibit on display through the end of June!

Local Voices Spotlight: Movie Making On Main Street

This past Saturday, from 8 a.m., to almost 8 p.m, Main Street was buzzing with filmmakers from the Atlanta 48-Hour Film Project. 

Filmmakers Jayson Palmer and Chris Ethridge brought a crew of 20 (give or take) actors, screenwriters, and cameramen, to work on their entry in this annual contest. Main Street and its shops will be the backdrop for the short movie they completed for this amazing event. Antiques In Old Town  is featured in one of the major scenes.

Jayson and Chris will be screening the film at the Old Town Lilburn Center For The Arts, an extension of , on Main Street later this summer.

Thanks to Lilburn's own Richard Ferris for getting up at early and arriving on the scene at 8 AM to photograph the excitement on Main Street to share with Patch readers.

Live Music SOUTHERN SILK DUO: Smoothness from the South

Live music by Southern Silk Duo. This twosome, with guitar and vocals, make outstanding music! I heard them at a few weeks ago and loved their style. Flavors of jazz, contemporary, r&b, soul, old school, country, Motown and anything in between. Visit their website. Listen to them at our Event Center at 96 Main Street NW, right next to the shop. 6 to 9 PM.  No charge, but there will be a tip jar! If you like their music let them know! 
Snacks and drinks for sale at the shop for $1 to $2.
Richard Ferris photography exhibit continues through the month of June. Lovely photos for incredible prices.
 We will be open Friday nights with events through the dates of the Farmer's Market so keep us on your calendar!
Normal shop hours: Thursday and Saturday 11am to 5 pm, Friday noon until 9 PM.
